Rubber or EVA? Compare the differences
Choosing the right car mats is about more than appearance. Fit, floor coverage, stability and ease of cleaning determine how well they work every day.
Rubber mats are a familiar, practical option. Carvion EVA mats are made for a specific vehicle and use a cellular structure that keeps water, sand and mud in place. Below, we compare both solutions clearly so you can choose what suits your car and the way you use it.
Water
resistance
Rubber and EVA mats do not absorb water. Both help protect the vehicle floor from rain, snow and mud.
Protection
from dirt
Both solutions protect the floor from dirt and liquids. The main difference is how they control debris and how much of the floor they cover.
Vehicle-specific
EVA fit
Carvion EVA mats are made for a specific vehicle, including its floor contours and fastening points. Many standard rubber sets protect a smaller area.
Everyday
comfort
EVA mats are lightweight, odour-neutral in normal use and easy to remove. Their cells keep water and dirt from moving freely across the surface.
WHAT MATTERS MOST?
What should you consider
when choosing car mats?
- Choose mats designed for the exact make, model and generation of your vehicle.
- Check that the set uses the vehicle’s fastening points and stays safely clear of the pedals.
- Compare how much of the floor is protected, including the central tunnel and side areas.
- Consider how easily water, sand and mud can be removed in everyday use.
Limitations of rubber mats
- Universal sets can leave parts of the floor uncovered
- Poorly fitted mats may shift while driving
- Water and dirt remain exposed on the surface
- They are usually heavier to remove from the vehicle
- Shape and colour personalisation is often limited
- Some rubber compounds can have a noticeable smell

Carvion car mats — FAQ Frequently asked questions
Floor coverage and fit
– Will the mats definitely fit?
Yes, our EVA mats are designed specifically for every make, model and version, and they cover the whole floor area including places that rubber or velour mats do not protect.
– What is a tunnel mat?
EVA mats cover up to 98% of the floor including the centre tunnel and give maximum protection.
– Is the heel pad fitted to the driver's mat?
No, the heel pad is supplied separately so you can position it to your own preference.
Material properties and durability
– What is EVA material?
It is a 10 mm thick foam that traps dirt and water on the surface of the mat and stops them getting underneath.
– What is the difference between a 3D set and a 3D set with edges?
A 3D set with edges gives extra protection to the side trim of the floor and a better fit.
– How long do the mats last?
Thanks to the durable EVA material the mats last 5 to 7 years without signs of wear.
Use and care
– How do I clean EVA mats?
Dirt does not cling to the surface of the mat. Just shake it out, or rinse it with a pressure washer if it is heavily soiled.
– Are EVA mats suitable for summer and winter?
Yes, they are water-resistant, odourless, temperature-resistant and ideal for year-round use.
Ordering and delivery
– What is the delivery time?
We usually fulfil orders within 2 weeks. For special vehicles such as motorboats or tractors it can extend to 4–6 weeks.
– How is delivery handled?
We send the mats by courier straight to the customer's address. Because of the size of the product we do not send mats to parcel lockers. We make sure they arrive exactly as they were made — without folding or bending that could affect the fit.
